Dr. Randal L. BrownDr. Randal Brown received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1992. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center and completed a fellowship in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology from the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1999. He joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 1999. He is married and has four children.

 

Dr. William D. Buser

Dr. William D. BuserDr. William Buser received his undergraduate degree from Kansas State University in 1977. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1980. He completed his internship at the University of Ohio and his fellowship at the University of Kansas School of Medicine Division of Gastroenterology. He joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 1985. He is married and has three children.

 

Dr. Donna M. Graessle

Dr. Donna M. GraessleDonna Graessle, D.O. received her undergraduate degree Summa Cum Laude, from St. Mary College in 1982. She attended medical school at the University of Health Sciences/College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri. She completed her Residency at the University of Missouri, Kansas City and Truman Medical Center-West. She completed her Gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Missouri, Kansas City and Truman Medical Center-West in 1992.  She joined Consultants in Gastroenterology in 1995 and then joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 1997. She is married and has two children.

Dr. James A. Mavec

Dr. James A. MavecDr. James Mavec received his undergraduate degree from Creighton University in 1985. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1989. He completed his residency at the University of Kansas Department of Medicine and his fellowship at the University of Kansas Division of Gastroenterology in 1994. He joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 1994. He is married and has 6 children.

 

Dr. Christian C. McElhinney

Dr. Christian C. McElhinneyDr. Christian McElhinney received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1995. He completed a year of General Surgery at Creighton University School of Medicine followed by a year as a Research Resident at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, Dickenson-Diveley Midwest Orthopedic Clinic. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 2000 and his Gastroenterology Fellowship in 2003. He has been with Gastrointestinal Associates since 2003. He is married and has three children.

 

Dr. Jon Christopher Nichols

Dr. Jon Christopher NicholsDr. Jon Christopher Nichols received his undergraduate degree from Marymount College in 1983. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1987. He was a resident in the Department of Medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He was Chief Resident at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and then a fellow at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine Division of Gastroenterology in Rochester, Minnesota. He joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 2001. He is married and has two sons.

 

Dr. John A. Thesing

Dr. John A. ThesingDr. John Thesing received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science degree. He received his medical degree from the Medical School of the University of Miami and then completed his internship at Ohio State University Hospital, where he also completed his Residency. He was a Fellow in Gastroenterology at The Ohio State University Hospital from1985-1987. He served as Medical Staff Physician at the Veterans Administration in Columbus, Ohio before joining Gastrointestinal Associates in 1990. He is married and has five children and two grandchildren.

 

Dr. Jeffrey L. Young

Dr. Jeffrey L. YoungDr. Jeffrey Young received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas Medical School in 1989. He then completed a third year residency in Internal Medicine at Evanston Hospital at Northern University in 1992. He served as Chief Resident of Internal Medicine at Evanston Hospital. He completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1995. He joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 1995. He is married and has four children.

 

Karen Luken, MS, ARNP, FNP-C

Karen Luken, MS, ARNP, FNP-CKaren Luken joined Gastrointestinal Associates in June 2005 and has Clinical privileges at Shawnee Mission Medical Center and Saint Luke’s South in Overland Park, Kansas.

Karen received her Master of Science Nurse Practitioner in August 1999 from Creighton University in Omaha Nebraska. Karen received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1997 where she graduated Summa Cum Laude.

Karen was the Recipient of Constance Smith-Peterson Award which exemplifies a commitment to the advancement of nursing theory and practice through leadership, scholarship and community service.

She was the Recipient of Iota Tau Award for exemplary research and scholarship.

Karen has many published works and has been a presenter on several gastrointestinal subjects including GERD, Hepatitis, Liver Diseases, IBS and IBD.

 

Dr. John B. Sturgeon, MD

Dr. Jeffrey L. YoungDr. John B. Sturgeon received his undergraduate degree from University of Kansas in 1985. He received his medical degree from the University Of Kansas School Of Medicine in 1989. He completed his Residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Department of Internal Medicine and completed his Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Kansas, Division of Gastroenterology in 1994.

He joined the Sunflower Medical Group in 1994 where he practiced Gastroenterology until 2000.

He then practiced as a solo practitioner until he joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 2011.

 

Jessica Huber, PA

Dr. Jeffrey L. YoungJessica Huber, PA received her undergraduate degree Magna Cum Laude from Saint Louis University in 2006. She received her Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant in 2009 from Arcadia University.

She joined Philadelphia Gastroenterology Consultants in 2009 and joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 2011.
